This just in from the news room, Microsoft to release flash based Zune…maybe. I’ve been doing a bit of digging around the various rumor mills and fantasizing forums. I’ve found that there is much speculation about what has been given the code name, Draco, Microsoft’s next Zune installment. I’ve jotted down a few of these and thought I’d give my opinion on what I think sounds, well, sound. First and foremost, I’ve gathered that it is supposed to be an answer to the iPod Nano, in that it will have a flash drive rather than a hard drive. I can see this as a safe bet. It targets a new customer base and altogether just makes sense. The next rumor on my little list would be WiFi. I’d also say this sounds reasonable considering even the Nintendo DS was WiFi enabled. Other viable rumors are that it will be physically larger than an iPod Nano, and that it will cost less than the original Zune.

I’ve got to say, the wildest idea out there is that Draco will be the size of an SD card, and use a “sleeve” that, when the card is inserted, will turn on allowing you to listen to your music. I doubt Microsoft will use anything this radical when releasing a new product. So most of these ‘maybes’ seem believable, and I’d be willing to bet that a lot of them will be present in the final product…assuming it exists of course!

Don’t look know…but that sleeve thing could be a possibility… Seems like Microsoft just got this new website: http://www.zunesleeves.com
I really hope this isn’t true. I think it would be so impractical to have a media player that was the size of an SD card. They’re too tiny. No one wants to lose their music. Well, I wouldn’t mind losing my Zune. Try again, Microsoft!
