Personally, I don’t understand why Apple decided that the iPod Mini, the Nano and the Shuffle had to have metal casing. Sure, it’s not like it’s heavy-duty steel or anything. You shouldn’t run over it with a car, but the point is — why in the world did they use metal? Anybody who puts that thing in their car and goes off to run an errand, well they’re going to come back to a piping hot batch of tunes when they get back. Put it in your pocket for too long a time when you’re out doing something? That thing generates heat and you’re left with a moist buttock because you slid your music into your back pocket.
Gelaskins came to me on a fluke one day, when I was surfing the net for items that were actually useful for the iPod. I didn’t necessarily see the Gelaskin as being useful, but they’re damn near gorgeous to look at. I was blown away at the detail of art used and so I contacted them and wanted the rundown. They sent me a good selection of them and immediately I ran to everyone I knew who had an iPod and started plastering the Gelaskins to everyone’s iPod. My friends had a Mini, so I put one on theirs and knowing it’d be left in the car most of the time - I took notice. Then, we gave one to my friend’s nephew who is hard on an iPod, let me tell you. I wanted to take note of how these would be used and just what they’d look like a month from application.
First off, they went on easier than expected. Nate told me that he cleaned up his iPod and the application was so perfect that it put most other skins (Even DecalGirl) to shame. It’s got a nice grip to the skin thanks to faint grip marks in the vinyl. The art is detailed and not even the least bit fuzzy. Now, when you get into Nate’s car and pick up their iPod after it’s been sitting in the Nevada heat — it doesn’t burn your hands. In fact, a month later - it still looks JUST as good as the first time it was applied.
Gelaskins have this huge selection of art for iPods AND Macbooks, ranging from the most surreal to an image of Mario and Luigi being booked at a police station. They’re gorgeous and functional, keeping the elements and hate from your most precious of Apple products. You’d be an idiot not to at least try it. Artists? Submit your artwork to Gelaskins via their email address provided over in the Contact section. Maybe your artwork would look kickass glued to someone’s iPod. Either way, the Gelaskin provides both fashion AND function to your iPod and you really have no reason not to try it.
Welcome

I’ve got an iSkin on my Mini, but would defintely trade it for one of these. The designs are pretty wicked.
