This is the image you’ll see when you go to the “Buy Now” option at the online Apple Store when you want to buy yourself a Nano or an iPod Video. Why? Because today, at Moscone West in San Francisco - Apple is unleashing their newest updates to the iPod Kingdom. There’s all the leaked images and some of the images that don’t look QUITE so leaked, but as we were asked - we’ll not post those until we’ve seen the actual images of the new iPods. Check here later for what will most definitely be some remarkable beauty in the hands of Apple.
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 30, 2007 – Intel Corporation today announced it has received a request for additional information from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in connection with the agency’s regulatory review of the proposed transaction with STMicroelectronics and certain affiliates of Francisco Partners to form a private, independent semiconductor company that will design, develop and manufacture non-volatile memory products.
While no estimate is being provided for a specific transaction closure date, Intel intends to respond promptly to the information request by the FTC (also known as a “second request”). The company will also continue to work closely with the agency as it conducts its review under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act. Once the FTC determines that the company has substantially complied with the second request, the HSR Act requires a waiting period of 30 days before the transaction may be closed.
We here at TEK like to practice common sense when conducting reviews. While we enjoy showcasing odd-end gadgets and trinkets that you may not necessarily need, we take pride in our effort to provide to the point, practical and honest reviews. That is why we had so much fun playing around with and ultimately reviewing the DXG-711 digital camera. Why? Because the DXG-711 is practical, easy to use, and delivers measurable bang for your buck.
At $150, you actually get what you paid for and then some. It really doesn’t hold a candle to some of the high-end and pricier digital cameras in terms of quality and performance but this is where the practicability comes into play. Are you a college student or last-minute vacationer? Simply put – if you have a small budget to spend on a new digital camera, you really can’t go wrong with this device. Cheap enough where you don’t need to open a new line of credit or weight down your credit card but expensive enough where you feel comfortable your investment is not a mistake.
But actions speak louder than words so we put DXG-711 to the test. The results yielded an overall positive experience. With proper outdoor lighting, the camera took phenomenal pictures. Indoors with limited lighting, the camera produced pictures with a fairly grainy outcome. We played around with the 15 different scene modes and while some helped, the camera failed to produce the same quality that was demonstrated in the sunny outdoors.
Picture taken indoors. You’ll notice that it isn’t bad by any means but a little bit grainy. Playing with the settings, we were not able to get the picture to look much better than this.
Using DXG-711 outside on a sunny day provides fantastic results. Not a single complaint about the quality of this picture.
Here is an overview of DXG-711 core features:
• 7 Megapixel digital camera
• Records video at 640 x 480, 30 fps with sound
• Digital Voice Recorder
• Portable Storage Device
• 3X Optical, 4X Digital Zoom
• 2.5” LTPS screen
•Supports Direct Print
• Built-in flash with a variety of modes
• Pre-Set Scene and Macro Modes for optimal automatic exposure settings
• ISO 400 Sensor Sensitivity
• Available immediately with a suggested retail price of $149.99
Performance and features aside, how does DXG-711 hold up aesthetically? It’s not drop dead sexy but it certainly gets the job done; being smaller than your hand and thin enough to fit comfortably in the front pocket of your moderately tight jeans. Put it this way, you will feel far from ashamed or embarrassed to bust this out of your pocket when it’s time to take a picture with your family or friends.
What is the final verdict for DXG-711? Realistically, you as a consumer need to put things into perspective. We have outlined the practical pros and cons of the camera so the rest is really us to you. We highly suggest DXG-711 to consumers who understand that the quality of pictures taken will not be as consistent as that of a high end digital camera. There will sometimes be red-eye, the batteries will drain fairly quickly, and you’ll occasionally take grainy pictures with poor contrast or focus depending on variables such as lighting and movement. We also suggest DXG-711 to consumers who are on a limited budget but still want the infamous bang for their buck. Isn’t that what it’s all about though? You want the best bang for your buck; whether you’re buying a high priced digital camera or a more economical decision like DXG-711, you want the best performance, best features and sexiest design. For the price range, DXG Technologies knows how to take care of you.
