The rise of Halo 3 merchandise is getting out of hand. Deliciously out of hand. One could say Microsoft is pushing it too far, but they’d be wrong. The Legendary Edition of Halo 3 is completely justifiable, right down to its ridiculous price tag. And who doesn’t love music? The Halo 3 Edition Zune is easily the best choice for your listening pleasure. Does an iPod have Master chief’s handsome visage displayed anywhere upon its surface? I think not.
When you’re “pwning noobs” over Xbox Live, what better way to insult 12 year olds than with the Halo 3 Edition wireless headset? While you’re at it, you should play all your Xbox games on the recently announced Halo 3 Special Edition console. The collection of Halo 3 swag just keeps growing. Bring it on Microsoft. Try and conquer my credit limit. I dare you.
When it comes to Sony, suddenly everyone’s a certified fortune teller. They’ve all got their predictions. For months, rumors of a PS3 price drop have been spreading like the town whore. Meanwhile, Sony hasn’t offered anyone so much as a firm handshake on the topic. Well, after months of these so-called “fortune tellers” crying “wolf!”, it appears their predictions may actually be taking shape.
According to this and several other reports, the 60 Gig version of the PS3 officially costs $100 less. You can pocket $100 now, or spend it on the 80 Gig version being released in August. Not only does the console come with 20 more Gigs of space, but it also includes a copy of Motor Storm. Read the fine print before making your decision though. The box says “limited edition”. That’s our Sony up to its wacky schemes again.
You’ve all heard the terrifying stories of the Ring of Death. You turn on your Xbox 360 and are greeted with the fear instilling three-quarter flashing red ring. Worse yet is that it can sneak up on you during game play. The good news is that, they extended the one year warranty that just expired to a three year warranty, but only for the Ring of Death error. They will repair your unit free of charge including shipping. Even more surprising is that they have also agreed to retroactively reimburse those who have paid Microsoft to repair this error in the past. To quote Peter Moore, “In doing so, Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.” A little ironic since this warranty extension only covers the Ring of Death error. I’d say claiming responsibility for one error is a start, and if they truly want to appear altruistic, they will have to include the others.
